Madness - C’est La Vie Tour 2023
MAD VISUALS FOR MADNESS TO FIT THE BANDS ECLECTIC STYLE
For Madness' "C'est La Vie" tour, I had the pleasure of creating dynamic stage visuals for five of their key songs. The band utilized an innovative 5-LED screen layout, and my role was to design video content that would not only complement their performance but also adapt to the constantly changing screen configurations.
The challenge was in the variety—at different points in the show, the screens would shift between multiple configurations: four individual screens, two screens, or two portrait-shaped screens joined together on either side of the stage. There also was also a single long screen positioned at the top of the stage, adding further complexity to the design process. My task was to design content that worked cohesively across all these configurations, while ensuring it matched the band's energetic, eclectic style.
Some of the visuals were designed with alpha channels, allowing them to blend seamlessly with live video feeds of the band. This created a layered, immersive experience that added depth to the performance.
Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with several key figures: tour director Steve Martin, production designer Matt Arthur, video director Toby Vogel, and members of the band themselves. They provided me with a moodboard of style references and feedback, ensuring that each piece I created fit within the creative vision for the show.
We held multiple Zoom calls to refine the content, making sure everything was ready for the tour's month-long run, which extended through the 2023 holiday season.
The result was a series of bespoke visuals that helped bring Madness' live performance to life, enhancing the energy on stage and delivering a visually stunning experience for the audience.
